A special menu by Maison van den Boer’s chefs.

Art on a plate

Inspired by the opulent works of Dutch Masters, we present food as paintings. An intricate composition of colours, shapes and light. Brush strokes and textures. A dish as a work of art, accompanied by the perfect beverage. We can already predict one thing: this party is going to be masterful!

The Masters

Vincent van Gogh

He is one of the greatest Dutch heroes now, but he was unknown and penniless when he took his own life. He left us a legacy of 2,100 works, including Sunflowers, The Starry Night, and Bedroom in Arles.

Johannes Vermeer

Well-known for his genre paintings containing pigments such as ultramarine and lead-tin-yellow. The Milkmaid, Girl with a Pearl Earring, and many of his other works depict daily life in the Dutch Golden Age.

Rembrandt van Rijn

In the Dutch Golden Age, people with money to spend would have their portraits painted by Rembrandt. 2019 will be the Year of Rembrandt, commemorating the 350th anniversary of Rembrandt’s death.

Piet Mondriaan

A pioneer of abstract art. He was highly influential as a member of De Stijl art movement. His most famous work is geometrical, using characteristic horizontal and vertical black lines and primary colours.

The menu

Our chefs have created four courses, each of which has its own characteristic palette of tastes. You can now taste Van Gogh, Vermeer, Rembrandt and Mondriaan!

Van Gogh

Travelling through the fields

A dish as a landscape, with flowers waving in the sun. Set in an edible frame, surrounded by expressive brush strokes of sauce. This starter can only be a Van Gogh!

STARTER – A frame of tarragon, quail’s breast with a quail’s leg confit, sunflower seeds and a green herb salad

A pearl to behold

The Girl with a Pearl Earring has left the stage, but her visit has left quite an impression. This entremets showcases a trout pearl that could have been painted by Vermeer himself.

ENTREMETS – Trout pearl and Dutch oyster with poached cod in butter sauce and salty vegetables

Straight from the Dutch Golden Age

The light in this dish comes in from the left, to honour the Master’s signature style. It’s not the meat that takes centre stage, it’s the little barrels of earthy vegetables. The finishing touch is provided by gold leaf and masterful glazing techniques.

MAIN COURSE – Glazed veal with earthy vegetables, potatoes and red wine sauce

Finishing in De Stijl

A rhythmically ordered dessert inspired by the works of Mondriaan.  A composition of dark chocolate, passion and mango. The guests can create their own work of art: with the most delicious paint imaginable! Who will be the next Dutch Master?

DESSERT – Cubist dessert of dark chocolate, passion and mango
